Reviewing my Rainy 75
I bought the Rainy 75 keyboard a bit impulsively on my lunch break. In all fairness, my keyboard had just broken and the one built into my work laptop is horrific, so I needed something quickly. Still, this wasn't exactly a well researched purchase.
That said, it's probably one of my favourite items in the office now, and I have no regrets.
First Impressions
The first thing I noticed was the weight of the keyboard. The metal made it heavier than usual, but in a good way. It made it feel like more of an upgrade. It doesn't move around on the desk, which makes the setup feel more put together.
The second thing was the sound.
It's incredibly satisfying. There's something about it that just makes typing feel better. I was a bit worried it might annoy people around me, but it actually ended up being the opposite. My coworkers enjoyed hearing me type.
Daily Use
Typing Experience
Typing on this just feels better than a standard keyboard.
There's a bit more effort compared to something like a laptop keyboard or the MX Keys, but you get used to it pretty quickly, and the sound of the keyboard makes up for it.
Sound
The sound makes the typing more enjoyable. It's consistent and relaxing, especially during longer sessions.
I've used it daily at work, and I still get excited by it.
Build Quality
It's heavier than expected, and it feels like it'll last. That being said, I'm still very careful with it.
What's Overrated
The lighting feature within the keyboard are not as good as they look in the ads. I usually keep them off, as they don't really suit the dark keyboard.
What's Actually Great
- The typing experience
- The build quality
- The sound
These things make tasks much more enjoyable
Annoying Things
The mirror on the back of the keyboard feels redundant. There may be a hidden purpose, but for me it doesn't really do anything.
Would I Buy It Again?
I'd definitely buy it again. It wasn't a planned purchase, but it turned out to be a really good one.
After using this keyboard, it's hard to go back to using regular ones. It might not directly improve your productivity, but it'll improve your typing experience for sure.
