Spider-Man suits ranked

Spider-Man has had an absurd number of suits across comics, movies, and games. His superintelligence and creativity make it pretty easy for the writers to fit new suits into different storylines. Most of his unconventional suits are based on innovation to defeat certain enemies, whilst the other are just for aesthetics.

The following rankings aren't necessarily based on either of these purposes, but mainly on what appeals to me personally.

5. Symbiote Suit

The Symbiote suit is a classic for me. The appeal isn't just because of how nice it looks, but what it means for Peter in his story. The shift from bright red and blue to a dark black complements how he's going through a dark time in his life, and made me nervous reading it as a kid. The emblem change from black to white makes it stand out, reminding us that even though it's a new suit, it's still Peter underneath.

4. Spider-Armour MK II

This was another one of the more distinctive colour schemes among his suits. Like the symbiote suit, Black and yellow was also a pretty big separation from his others. What I liked about it was that it's very modern. For me personally, modern will always beat classics. Something that stood out to me was the helmet. It has this menacing look which is different from the fabric materials used in other suits. I also like the yellow/gold emblem, and how it spreads out to his arms and legs. The shoulders and forearms also have slightly more padding than the rest of his suit. It's a small change, but it makes a big difference to his presentation.

3. Brand New Day

The Brand New Day suit is really close to the traditional Spider-Man appearance. It might go against what I've just said about modern suits, but the sentimental factors do play a part in this ranking. What I like about it is that it has its technology built in very subtly. During the movie, we see that he still has a HUD that he uses, along with his new AI "Evie". These little things separate this suit from the real classic design, but it still has that similar appearance that makes it immediately recognisable as Spider-Man.

2. Spider-Armour MK III

This is very different from many of his other suits. Nicknamed the "Ends of the Earth" armour, it looks like an advanced military outfit. It looks much heavier and more intimidating than his other suits. However, the colour scheme and design still make him recognisable as Spider-Man. The black emblem complemented by the dashes of red is enough on its own. The designers also maintain the same eye shape and give him a completely red mask, just to make it more obvious though. In the comics, he creates this suit in order to defeat the Sinister Six, as his regular fabric suit wouldn't be able to cut it against this coterie of supervillains. One of the main reasons for this bulkiness is that he needed advanced durability. In terms of effectiveness, this is definitely the suit that wins.

1. Iron Spider

The Iron Spider suit takes the crown for my favourite. To specify, I'm referring to the MCU version. The comic version is great too, but the blue/red colour scheme in the MCU version makes it look much better. What I love about it is that it's the perfect balance of technology and Spider-Man's identity. It's extremely advanced, but doesn't lose the things that make him recognisable. The feature in this suit I love the most is obviously the mechanical spider arms. Unlike random tech which is added on, the mechanical arms reinforce the spider theme. The nanotech and metallic appearance also differentiate the suit from the rest of his collection. The reason it beats his other advanced suits is that this one has the best balance of his identity and effectiveness.

Honourable mentions

Spider-Man 2099

It's a different design than Peter's, and the traditional Spider-Man. I like that it has a strong colour scheme, and matches Miguel's persona.

Anti-Ock Suit

Another technologically advanced suit that I liked. The design itself works particularly well within the visual style of the game. I also liked how it represents Peters ingenuity when creating suits.

Secret Wars Suit

This suit has a very tactical look. It's primarily black, but contains dark blue along with his red webbing patterns along the arms and face. I like it because it's a different approach to the other suits he has.
