Reviewing my MX Master 3S

I bought this mouse on a Black Friday Sale in early 2023 and I've been using it ever since. I'd been using basic non-ergonomic mice my whole life and I couldn't understand why people were recommending these modern mice. To me they were all the same. After using the MX Master 3S for over three years I can safely say I was wrong though.

Daily Use

My usage is primarily software development, web browsing, and general office work. I do very little gaming, so this review is focused on productivity rather than gaming performance.

Design

In terms of looks, the design was a bit strange. It's very different from the average basic mouse and is much more modernised. That being said, it does grow on you. In terms of looks, it can upgrade the appearance of your setup.

Build Quality

The build feels much more firm than the average mouse. The materials are premium and it is not heavy for the features it provides. The scroll wheels are much better and feels smoother than other mice. The bottom of the mouse is smooth which makes it much easier to move around. There are some reviews which mention that after a year of rigourous use that the rubber grips can degrade. Personally this has not been the case, and still functions just as good as day 1. With proper care, it can last a long time.

Comfort & Ergonomics

After using for a week, it becomes hard to go back to basic mice. Your hand adjusts to the feel of it so much that older mouses can make your hands sore after prolonged usage. I didn't realise how much strain I was putting on my hand until I switched. Going back to regular mice now feels way less comfortable.

Performance

The battery life is very good and I rarely have to charge. When I do, I am still able to use it which is good for "emergency" situations.

Features

One of my favourite features is the device switcher. It allows you to set up 3 devices for quick switching. As a software engineer with both a work and personal laptop, this is very useful.

Another one is the horizontal scroll. As a coder this is incredibly useful for long lines of code.

Also, if you download the logitech app, you can customize the buttons on the mouse and set what they do.

Another feature worth mentioning is the quiet clicks. The clicks are much quieter than most mice while still providing good tactile feedback. In an office environment, it makes a noticeable difference.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Premium build quality with durable materials
  • Long battery life with charging while using
  • Multi-device support (up to 3 devices)
  • Superior ergonomic design for comfort
  • Smooth and precise scroll wheels
  • Modern and professional appearance

Cons

  • Higher price point compared to basic mice
  • Requires adjustment period for new users
  • Rubber grips may degrade with heavy use (reported by some)
  • Larger size may not suit all hand sizes

Verdict

This is a great watch for office and personal work. I probably wouldn't recommend it for gaming. It's a little bit pricey, but definitely worth it if it's in your budget.
